My values

Being ethical and bringing joy

The environment and looking after our world

Being environmentally aware is an essential part of Mary’s House Designs ethos;

  • I only source from within the UK for all of the paper and framing products I use, this therefore reduces the carbon footprint by not flying or shipping materials or goods.

  • Every single card is printed on FSC card, envelopes are made from recycled paper and wraps are made from recyclable polypropylene. The card I use is made in the Lake District, so it only travels a short distance across the Pennines!

  • My wrapping paper is printed using eco-friendly vegetable dyes and on to recycled paper too. I deliberately don’t use any foils or glitter in the products, as these are not recyclable or made in an environmentally friendly way.

  • All wooden frames are sourced from sustainable and managed forests and white frames are made from composite recycled plastics.

  • I do not over package and use recycled packaging wherever I can to reduce waste and re-use!

Encouraging mindfulness

Here at Mary’s House Designs I am a true believer that getting out into nature and being in the moment is such a huge part of being a healthy human! Being mindful and staying well is so important and making time for yourself by putting your mind and body first is something you should do every day. Taking a walk everyday in the woods and parks near to where I live always helps- the beautiful dappled light through the leaves, the shadows cast by overhanging branches, the birdsong!

I offer a free download of our ‘Search through nature’ artwork (click on the image below) which you can print out and frame or stick up as a reminder to keep in touch with nature and therefore with yourself!

Quality products, made to last

  • Everything I create is made to last- I encourage people to frame cards so that they can be kept, or turn them into gift tags! My prints are printed with archival inks and will last a lifetime.

  • My style is has a timeless quality, with a nod to tradition and contemporary style, making it something that you can keep forever.

  • I want you feel my designs are something that you want to keep, not throw away. I love to think that my designs are being passed down and gifted to others to keep and enjoy.

Shop small

  • My work is stocked in independent retailers and galleries across the country as well as online retailers. I am also a supporter of Just a Card, a campaign organised to encourage people to buy from artists, designers and independent shops and galleries.

  • I encourage our customers to shop with independents and support the local and UK economy.

  • I buy my supplies from small businesses across the UK therefore I know that workers are being paid fairly and are not exploited or put in danger.
