Holly and foliage Fine Art print

from £5.00

A beautiful, hand-illustrated art print of sprigs of holly, taken from a watercolour and ink painting.

A beautiful, illustrated art print.

This print is taken from an original drawing and watercolour/ink painting.

This print features the Birth Flower of December, the holly. The print includes a card that has information about the history and symbolic meanings around the flower.

The card says; ‘As the birth flower of December, even though holly isn't technically a flower, they have a meaning of happiness, optimism, good fortune and peace which is perfect for a month filled with festive joy and a new year approaching.

Holly also holds a lot of symbolism in Christianity, because of their dark green, spike leaves and bright red berries, . It’s believed that the berries were once white and stained red from Christ’s blood while the leaves represented the crown of thorns.

Holly was known as a very sacred plant by the druids. Where other winter flowers and plants wilted in the winter, the green and red colours of holly remained vibrant. Making it a very special plant indeed! In fact, way, way back in the day holly was seen as a symbol of fertility and a solution to protect places from witches in Pagan times.’
